Re-examining the modernist apartment A 1970’s apartment in Filothei

( description )

This 1970s apartment in Filothei underwent a comprehensive transformation, blending modernist architectural influences with contemporary design. The project involved rethinking every function of the home, from the public spaces to the private areas, to create a cohesive living environment that speaks to both aesthetic elegance and functionality. The design focuses on a refined material palette and strategic layouts, ensuring a seamless flow from room to room, while maintaining a strong connection to the building’s modernist roots.

The use of Tinos green marble in the living area creates a bold visual statement, becoming the centerpiece of the space. To accentuate the beauty of this natural material, a minimalist dark green vinyl flooring has been incorporated into the kitchen and corridors, forming a dynamic contrast while maintaining the integrity of the overall design. This careful attention to material choice elevates the space and reinforces a sense of harmony between the different zones.
The kitchen and living spaces are unified by a continuous wooden structure that forms the kitchen island. This design element serves multiple functions—it acts as a dining table, a workbench, and even as an art piece, embodying the principle of “form follows function.” This versatile piece extends throughout the apartment, visually connecting the different areas and providing a fluidity that enhances the overall experience of the space.
