FIK

Fika Slice of life

( description )
Fika is more than just a word in the Swedish cultural vocabulary – it’s a mindset. Literally meaning to take time during the day to enjoy a coffee with friends, it represents a cherished ritual of slowing down, indulging in a sweet treat (ideally homemade and thoughtfully presented) and connecting with others. It’s best experienced in a well-designed, comfortable and naturally lit space. Our central concept for Fika draws inspiration from Scandinavian graphic design, known for its simplicity, clarity and understated sophistication. The space acts as a white canvas, animated by clean, colorful lines that make the walls feel like part of a poster composition.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a playful multi-colored terrazzo floor that leads to a cozy seating area, anchored by an orange couch and wooden chairs with woven backs. Conical tables in green and white add a whimsical touch. Above, metal bookshelves displaying cookbooks seem to float, creating a sense of lightness and layering. Graphic patterns animate the space – some shaped with green brick tiles, others painted – forming bold compositions that either resemble lighting fixtures or trace the architectural outlines of the walls.

At the far end, the bar sits like a striking blue tunnel, visually guiding visitors toward the kitchen and restrooms. Suspended from the ceiling, round metal mirrors hover above the bar, reflecting the freshly baked pastries below. A circular opening at the back of the bar, partially clad in tiles, creates a playful visual connection between the kitchen and the front of house.

The result is a café that feels at once edgy, cozy and whimsical – an inviting environment that captures the essence of Fika in both spirit and design.
