Athenian Mosaic

( description )

This project focuses on the architectural redesign of an apartment in an 80’s-era building in Agia Paraskevi, Athens. The goal was to retain the maximal aesthetic of the period while introducing modern materials and contemporary technologies. A strong emphasis was placed on preserving the original character of the space, using elements such as mosaic flooring and textured glass to bridge past and present.

The mosaic floor, composed of various marble fragments, extends from the hallway to the kitchen and WC, reinforcing the apartment’s vintage identity. At the entrance, a round wooden vestibule seamlessly integrates with the custom-built buffet, welcoming guests into the living area while establishing a cohesive spatial flow.
The buffet acts as a transitional element between the kitchen and living room, utilizing semi-transparent textured glass that filters natural light and shadows. A custom open bookshelf subtly divides the study from the main living and dining areas, maintaining a sense of openness while offering spatial definition.
