70’s apartment transformation in Pagrati

( description )

This project involved the renovation of a quintessential 1970s apartment in Pagrati, Athens. The original layout was characterized by small, fragmented rooms, multiple floor layers, and wallpaper covering every wall. The redesign focused on unifying the spaces while preserving and restoring key architectural elements. The integration of old and new materials, along with a carefully curated color palette, results in a home that effortlessly bridges past and future.

A significant transformation took place in the kitchen area, where a custom terrazzo floor was created using black cobbles embedded in a white cement base. This flooring choice harmonizes beautifully with the restored green Tinos marble in the living area, forging a seamless dialogue between old and new. The structural elements of the apartment were intentionally left exposed, adding depth and authenticity to the space.
The kitchen, both in form and color, plays a dominant role in the new design, serving as a visual focal point. Throughout the apartment, the interplay of green and burgundy-red tones enhances the spatial character, creating a refined yet vibrant atmosphere. Original elements, such as vintage doors and the marble sink from the previous main bathroom, were carefully preserved and repurposed, reinforcing the home’s connection to its past.
